Your legal responsibilities as a truck owner!
Every day at least one British Worker is killed or injured because a forklift truck was not operated or maintained correctly.
The Fork Lift Truck Association state, that as a company using forklift trucks, you have a number of important responsibilities, if you are to keep your operation legal and your employees safe, Including a legal obligation to ensure that it holds a valid “Report of Thorough Examination”. This applies whether you own, lease or hire the truck. (PUWER 98)
Regular forklift maintenance and servicing
Under the PUWER 98 act you have a legal duty to ensure your fork lift truck is always in good repair. As a minimum this will include a sound system of daily or pre-shift checks and a regular schedule of preventative maintenance that meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. Gwent Mechanical Handling can offer regular forklift servicing and maintenance.

Annual Thorough Examination Report
All forklift trucks must have an official “thorough examination at least once a year. In many ways it is like an automotive MOT, but it is much more rigorous. It is a legal requirement that applies to every fork lift truck - including trucks that are just one year old. Crucially, as an owner or user, YOU are responsible.
This inspection may not be the same as your insurance inspection and is not usually included in regular servicing (again like a car MOT)
Gwent Mechanical Handling Ltd are the Wales main Dealer for Still and Doosan fork lift trucks and accredited Thorough Examination company. We are accredited with ISO 9002, ISO 14001 and OHAS 18001 international standards for quality, environment and health and safety respectively.
